RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
As a member of the UMT you will share responsibility for
the
religious education program in your unit, parish or post chapel.
As
such you may have a Director of Religious Education (DRE), who
is
responsible for the religious education programs for both service
and
family members in the post chapel.
This individual personally supervises a post-wide religious
education program primarily through the different post congregations.
He/she designs religious education programs for soldier ministry; and
supervises and directs them to the extent possible.
Religious education programs are normally conducted year round
and the DRE is responsible for recruiting and training volunteers to
be teachers/leaders, and lay leaders to teach in such programs as
Vacation Bible School, youth ministry, etc.
Educational activities
may include; age group classes; exceptional children classes;
multicultural programs; intergenerational sessions; single adult
classes; couple classes; teacher/leader classes; meetings; socials;
leadership classes; and specialized adult work and retreats.
The Director of Religious Education will normally be an
Education Specialist in the GS-1710 series and meet the following
qualification requirements:
a)
Hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or
university with a major or minor in religious education or a major in
either education, theology, or religion. In addition, the candidate
must have had 2 years of practical experience as a Director or
Assistant Director of Religious Education or a comparable position.
b)
A Master of Religious Education degree or its equivalent
from an accredited graduate school.
