Combat Stress Control
Suicide Prevention
Talks about wanting to die.
May have experienced significant loss.
Shows changes in behavior, appearance, or mood.
Abuses drugs and alcohol.
Deliberately injures self.
May have experienced a recent breakup in a relationship.
Provide Aid
Ask. Don't be afraid to ask, "Are you thinking about hurting
yourself? Have you had thoughts of suicide?"
Intervene. Do intervene immediately. Utilize mental health
personnel. Take every threat seriously. Don't keep a secret
concerning a person at risk.

Locate a chaplain, staff duty officer, doctor, nurse, friend, family
member, crisis line, or hospital emergency staff for help.
I
Inform your chain of command regarding the situation.

Find someone to stay with the person. Don't leave the person
alone.
E
Expedite matters. Get help immediately. A suicidal person needs
immediate attention.
